Amidst the preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Kolkata Airport Police apprehended a criminal with a firearm from the vicinity of Kolkata Airport. The arrest comes amidst heightened security measures undertaken by the Election Commission to ensure fair and peaceful voting, with political parties actively engaged in campaigning across the region. According to police sources, the arrest followed information received from undisclosed sources, leading to the capture of a notorious individual identified as Enamul Shaikh, who was found carrying a firearm in the Khali area adjacent to the airport.
Further investigations revealed that the suspect, who had multiple complaints registered against him at various police stations, resided in the Newtown area on rent. Police recovered a one-shot pipe gun and a round cartridge from the apprehended individual. Scheduled to appear in Barrackpur court on Wednesday, the police plan to request a 14-day custody to delve deeper into the matter, aiming to ascertain the source of the firearm and the intentions behind the suspect's presence in the airport vicinity, purportedly for criminal activities.
